States Setting

Purpose

This article explains how Admins configure States in the Thulo Logistics Module.

States represent sub-regions within a country and are used to further define delivery locations, pricing rules, and routing within logistics operations.

Required Permissions

  • Logistics → Settings → Edit

  • User Management → Admin access


What States Are Used For

States are used to:

  • Define recipient address details

  • Support shipment destination selection

  • Enable more granular pricing and routing

  • Act as a parent for Cities configuration

States help ensure accurate location selection and delivery handling.


Where States Appear

Once configured, States appear in:

  • Recipient address forms

  • Shipment destination selection

  • Shipping rates and tariff configuration

  • City creation settings

States are always linked to a Country.


Step-by-Step: Add a State

Step 1: Navigate to States Settings

Go to Logistics → Settings → States.

Step 2: Select Country

Choose the Country under which the state belongs.

States must always be associated with a country.


Step 3: Add State Information

Enter the required details, such as:

  • State name

  • Optional notes or description

Use official or commonly recognized state names.


Step 4: Save the State

Click Save to add the state.

After saving:

  • The state becomes available in recipient and shipment forms

  • Cities can be created under the state


Important Rules to Know

  • States are tenant-wide

  • States must belong to a country

  • Removing states can affect recipient addresses

  • Changes apply to future selections only


Best Practices

  • Configure states immediately after countries

  • Maintain consistent naming conventions

  • Add cities under states to complete geographic setup

  • Avoid deleting states used in existing records


Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Creating states without assigning a country

  • Deleting states used by recipients or shipments

  • Using informal or abbreviated state names

  • Skipping city configuration after state setup

This data is used for the "State" field of Cities setting and the "Destination State " field of Shipping Rates List setting

  1. Create State - Step 1. Create country in Countries setting, see details at https://app.thulo.com/knowledge-base/article/countries-setting 
  2. Step 2. Go to Settings menu under the Logistics module on the left sidebar.  Step 3. Select the States menu and click on Add State button. - Step 4. In the New State popup, fill in the required fields. Country: This data is taken from Countries setting - Step 5. Select Save
  3. Update State  To edit a state: - Step 1. Go to Settings menu under the Logistics module on the left sidebar. - Step 2. Select the States menu. Find and select the state and click on - Step 3. Make the necessary changes to the state. - Step 4. Select Save.
  4. Delete State To delete a state: - Step 1.  Go to the Settings menu under the Logistics module on the left sidebar. - Step 2. Select the States menu  and select the state you want to delete. - Step 3. Select - Step 4. Select OK to confirm
