SMS Templates

Purpose

The SMS Templates screen is used to create and manage reusable SMS message templates within Thulo Marketing Automation.

SMS Templates provide a standardized structure for SMS communications and can be reused across multiple SMS records, campaigns, and automation workflows.

The relationship between SMS Templates and SMS messages is:

SMS Template → SMS → Campaign → Lead/Customer

Using SMS Templates helps ensure consistency in messaging, simplifies campaign creation, and supports multilingual communication.


Create

Step 1: Create an SMS Template

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Settings → SMS Templates.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Complete the required fields.

  4. Click Save.

Alternatively:

  • Click Back to cancel and return to the previous screen.

After saving, the system opens the SMS Template details screen.


Step 2: Add Additional Languages

  1. Open the SMS Template.

  2. Click Add Language.

  3. Select the desired language.

  4. Save.

A separate SMS design can be maintained for each language.


Step 3: Design the SMS Template

  1. Open the SMS Template.

  2. Click Design.

  3. Create the SMS content using available merge fields and dynamic data.

  4. Save the design.

The SMS Template is now available for use in SMS records.


Step 4: Clone the Design to Another Language

  1. Open the SMS Template.

  2. Click Clone Design.

  3. Select the target language.

  4. Copy the existing SMS design.

  5. Modify the content to match the selected language.

  6. Save.

This allows organizations to maintain consistent messaging across multiple languages.


View

To view an SMS Template:

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Settings → SMS Templates.

  2. Locate the SMS Template.

  3. Click View.

The SMS Template details screen displays:

  • Template information

  • Language versions

  • Statistics

  • Lead activity

  • Design previews


Edit

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Settings → SMS Templates.

  2. Locate the SMS Template.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Modify the required information.

  5. Click Save.

Changes become immediately available for future SMS records and campaigns.


Delete

To delete an SMS Template:

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Settings → SMS Templates.

  2. Locate the SMS Template.

  3. Click Delete.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

The SMS Template is permanently removed from the system.


Field Descriptions

Field Description
Name Name of the SMS Template.
Category Category assigned to the SMS Template. Only Categories with the type SMS Template are available for selection.
Language Language associated with the template version.
Published Determines whether the SMS Template is available for use.
Description SMS content and dynamic merge field configuration used when designing the template.

Workflow Rules

Language Management

Each SMS Template can contain multiple language versions.

When multiple language versions exist:

  • Separate content can be maintained for each language.

  • The appropriate version is selected during campaign execution based on the Lead's or Customer's language.

  • Designs can be copied using the Clone Design feature.

Template Availability

When Published = Yes:

  • The SMS Template becomes available for selection when creating SMS records.

When Published = No:

  • The SMS Template is not available for use.

Merge Fields

SMS Templates support dynamic merge fields.

These fields allow personalized information to be inserted automatically when messages are sent, such as:

  • Lead Name

  • Customer Name

  • Company Name

  • Contact Information

  • Custom Marketing Fields


Statistics

Text Message Over Time

Displays an overview of SMS delivery activity associated with the selected SMS Template.

SMS Statistics by Campaign

Displays campaign-based SMS activity for campaigns that use SMS records linked to the selected SMS Template.


Leads

The Leads tab displays Leads who have received SMS messages generated from the selected SMS Template.

Available information includes:

  • Lead details

  • SMS activity

  • Campaign participation

  • Lead scoring

The Point column displays the Lead's accumulated score after campaign processing, including:

  • Action Points

  • Change Points

  • Aggregated Marketing Scores


Important Notes

  • SMS Templates should be created before creating SMS records whenever possible.

  • Multiple language versions can be maintained within a single SMS Template.

  • Clone Design copies the existing structure and content into another language version.

  • Published SMS Templates are available when creating SMS records.

  • Deleting an SMS Template may affect SMS records and campaigns that reference it.

  • Statistics are updated automatically as campaigns execute and SMS messages are delivered.


SMS

Purpose

The SMS screen is used to create, manage, and send SMS communications through campaigns and marketing automation workflows.

SMS messages can be used for:

  • Order confirmations

  • Registration confirmations

  • Marketing promotions

  • Follow-up communications

  • Customer engagement campaigns

  • Automated workflow notifications

SMS messages are sent to:

  • Leads

  • Customer Primary Contacts

The system automatically selects the appropriate language version based on the recipient's preferred language.


Create

Step 1: Create an SMS Message

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Channels → SMS.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Complete the required information.

  4. Click Save.

Alternatively:

  • Click Back to cancel and return to the previous screen.

The SMS message becomes available for use in campaigns and workflows.


View

To view an SMS message:

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Channels → SMS.

  2. Locate the SMS record.

  3. Click View.

The SMS details screen displays:

  • SMS content

  • Language versions

  • Statistics

  • Campaign usage

  • Lead activity


Edit

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Channels → SMS.

  2. Locate the SMS record.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Modify the required information.

  5. Click Save.

Changes apply to future campaign executions.


Delete

  1. Navigate to Marketing Automation → Channels → SMS.

  2. Locate the SMS record.

  3. Click Delete.

  4. Confirm the deletion.

The SMS record is permanently removed.


Field Descriptions

Field Description
Name Name of the SMS record.
Description Detailed description of the SMS communication.
Category Category assigned to the SMS. Only Categories configured for Text Messages are available.
Published Determines whether the SMS can be used within campaigns.
SMS Template Template used as the design foundation for the SMS message.
Language Language associated with the SMS content.

Workflow Rules

SMS Delivery Requirements

Before SMS messages can be be sent:

  1. A supported SMS provider must be configured.

  2. The Twilio Plugin must be installed.

  3. Twilio settings must be configured under:

Setup → Settings → SMS → Twilio

Without a valid SMS provider configuration, SMS delivery will not be possible.

Recipient Selection

Campaign SMS messages are sent to:

  • Leads

  • Customer Primary Contacts

Recipients are determined by campaign workflow logic and audience configuration.

Language Selection

Before sending an SMS:

  1. The system checks the Lead's or Customer's language preference.

  2. The matching SMS language version is selected.

  3. The SMS is delivered using the corresponding language design.

Campaign Integration

SMS messages can be used within:

  • Campaigns

  • Workflow Automations

  • Drip Campaigns

  • Customer Journeys

  • Trigger-Based Actions

Only Published SMS records can be selected within campaign workflows.


Statistics

Summary Statistics

The Statistics tab provides:

Metric Description
Total Number of Leads Total Leads who have received the SMS.
Number of Active Campaigns Total active campaigns currently using the SMS and within the valid campaign period.
Number of Campaigns Participated Total completed or expired campaigns that previously used the SMS.

SMS Over Time

Displays SMS delivery trends and activity over time.

SMS Statistics by Campaign

Displays campaign-specific SMS usage and delivery information for campaigns that use the selected SMS.


Important Notes

  • Twilio must be installed and configured before SMS messages can be delivered.

  • SMS messages can be based on reusable SMS Templates.

  • Multiple language versions can be maintained for each SMS.

  • The system automatically selects the appropriate language version based on the Lead's or Customer's language preference.

  • Only Published SMS records can be used in Campaign workflows.

  • SMS delivery depends on the availability and configuration of the SMS provider.

  • Deleting an SMS record may affect campaigns that reference the SMS.

  • Statistics are updated automatically as campaigns execute and SMS messages are sent.
