Segments
Purpose
The Segments screen is used to classify, organize, and group Leads based on specific filtering criteria.
Segments enable marketers to create targeted audiences by applying conditions to Lead data. These audiences can then be used in campaigns, automation workflows, customer journeys, and marketing communications.
Instead of sending messages to all Leads, Segments allow businesses to target only the Leads that meet specific requirements.
Examples include:
-
Leads from a specific country
-
Leads with a particular tag
-
Leads who opened an email
-
Leads who submitted a form
-
Leads with a minimum score
-
Leads assigned to a specific Stage
The data created in the Segments screen is used throughout the Campaigns module for audience selection and workflow automation.

Workflow Rules
Segment Membership
Segments are generated dynamically based on configured filter conditions.
When a Segment is created:
-
The system evaluates the filter rules.
-
Matching Leads are identified.
-
Qualified Leads are added to the Segment.
Examples of filter conditions include:
-
Lead Tag contains a specific value
-
Email address contains specific text
-
Stage equals a selected value
-
Country equals a selected country
-
Score exceeds a specific threshold
Only Leads matching all configured criteria are included in the Segment.
Public Segment Rules
When Public Segment = Yes:
-
The Segment becomes available for selection within Campaigns.
-
Campaigns can use the Segment as a Lead source.
When Public Segment = No:
-
The Segment remains available for administrative purposes.
-
The Segment cannot be selected in Campaign configuration.
Campaign Integration
Segments are commonly used as Campaign audiences.
When a Campaign selects a Segment:
-
All Leads within the Segment become eligible for campaign processing.
-
Campaign workflows can send Emails, SMS messages, update scores, move Leads between Segments, and perform other automation actions.
Segment Transfer Rules
Campaign workflows may include actions that move Leads from one Segment to another.
When a Lead is transferred:
Different Segment Categories
If the source Segment and destination Segment belong to different Categories:
-
The Lead is added to the new Segment.
-
The Lead remains associated with the original Segment.
-
Membership information is preserved in both Segments.
Same Segment Category
If the source Segment and destination Segment belong to the same Category:
-
The Lead is moved from the original Segment to the new Segment.
-
Membership in the previous Segment is removed.
-
The new Segment becomes the Lead's active Segment within that Category.
This behavior ensures that Segments can support both classification and progression-based audience management.
