Purpose
Account Detail Types define how individual accounts behave inside SmartBooks.
They help the system understand what kind of transactions an account is used for and how those transactions appear in reports.
How to Access

Go to SmartBooks

Click Settings
-
Open Account Detail Types

What Account Detail Types Are Used For
Account detail types are used to:

Classify accounts more precisely
-
Control how amounts appear in reports
-
Ensure correct grouping of accounts
Each account in the Chart of Accounts must have one detail type.

On this page, you can see:

List of available account detail types

Associated account categories
-
Status of each detail type
Detail types are predefined and linked to account behavior.
Using Account Detail Types
When creating or editing an account:

Select an Account Type

Select an Account Detail Type that matches the purpose of the account
The selected detail type determines:

Where the account appears in reports

How totals are calculated

Account detail types are used across the entire SmartBooks module

Changing a detail type affects how future transactions are reported

Existing records are not automatically recalculated

Detail types should be selected carefully during account creation
